Membership Application Requirements 2022

The Working Artist Forum is a non-profit organization of painters working in one or more medium. Professional expertise of the membership is fostered through programs, group critiques, demonstrations, workshops and member exhibitions. Pro-Bono work for the community is encouraged. As a volunteer organization, members are urged to contribute their time and expertise in support of WAF activities.

New member screening is held annually on the second Tuesday of September. A five-person panel, making independent evaluations, will use the following criteria:

  • Composition/Design
  • Drawing
  • Technical Skills
  • Consistency in Quality/Presentation
  • Creativity/Originality

Jurying has traditionally taken place in person at the Academy Art Museum in Easton, Maryland. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, membership selection was conducted on-line in 2021 and 2020. Current plans are to return to in-person screening at the Academy. PLEASE CHECK BACK for confirmation of in-person or on-line submission procedures and instructions. On-line and in-person procedures and requirements are different!

Applications will be accepted after August 1. Deadline for submission is Monday, September 12, 2022. No exceptions.

An application form with detailed instructions will be available for download from the website no later than August 1. The following is required regardless of in-person or on-line screening.

  1. Applicants must be sponsored by a current WAF member in good standing.
  2. Each applicant must submit three original paintings and one original drawing (preferably black and white). In- person submissions must be properly framed in accordance with WAF standards.
  3. The work submitted for jury must:
    Be original (no copies) and may not infringe upon any copyright.
    Have been completed within the past two years and may not have been done in a workshop nor in a class.

Dues are $45/year, payable on September 1st and must be included with application for membership. If not accepted, check will be returned to applicant.

A Maryland State Sales and Use tax number will be required to participate in WAF shows.

Notification of membership (accepted or declined) will be by email.
